This post was inspired from an article by my friend Colin Wright at Exile Lifestyle.
I have recently discovered and fallen in love with the idea of minimalism. It frees my mind and allows me to uproot at any moment quickly. Soon I want to have a mobile lifestyle so this is a very important step for me. I feel so lightweight and great!
So i’m in my final design class called ‘Resume & Portfolio’ right now for school. We just got this new assignment where we have to define creativity in our own words. Cool right? I know! Personally I feel like we should have gotten this assignment early on in the program just because it helps you understand creativity better which is one of the basic, essential ingredients to being a good designer. Here is my definition of creativity:
Recently I got a new part-time gig at this place called 50 Below. They are a growing company located in Duluth that helps other businesses put their products and services online. Basically they provide thousands of websites for people.
At first I was hesitant to work there because they use various templates for all their websites. I wanted to work somewhere where I could learn how to be more ‘creative’. I figured it would be good to just go in for the interview, ask some questions, and get a feel for the place.
You don’t really need a designer. I mean a logo? Comon really? That is pretty easy to do. Just a couple simple lines and shapes here and there, throw in a nice font like Helvetica. You could really just do it in Microsoft Word or even MS Paint.

Choosing a font is one of the biggest struggles for a lot of designers. It can be a huge roadblock that can discourage you and interrupt your workflow. With this post I’d like to share some things I have learned, and apps I use that have greatly improved the way I choose fonts for a design.
